Trainings for Church Leaders

It’s reported that 23% of the U.S. population share their emotional concerns with church leaders. And yet, many Korean-American church leaders feel under-equipped to address mental health needs.

Pastors and church leaders are often the first point of contact for mental health needs. There is an urgent need to train church leaders to recognize mental health risks because the mental health literacy of the church determines the success of addressing the needs of their congregation and beyond. 71% of Korean Americans report being Christians and attending church regularly. Churches have a profound influence on the daily lives of many Korean Americans as many gather for religious, social, political, and educational activities. Inevitably, churches act as an important gateway to mental health services particularly for those at risk.

Our trainings help church leaders recognize and respond to risk, and provide ways in which they can care for their congregations.

In March 2022, Mustard Seed Generation launched a seven-week online training program designed for Korean American church leaders. The training features a combination of online lectures and live sessions from mental health professionals. Through the course, church leaders will be equipped with culture-specific tools to build mentally healthy churches. We welcome any church leader to participate whether you are a Sunday School teacher, children’s pastor, small group leader, senior pastor, or a worship pastor.

“I am so grateful for this space as Korean American followers of Jesus, to begin the conversation on mental health and how to implement education, awareness, and resources within our churches. It is so encouraging to know that MSG is paving the way by creating these training programs that take into consideration the Korean American culture and how to wisely and tactfully integrate mental health topics.”
