Biography
Tom was born in South Korea and immigrated with his family to Indiana at a young age. From growing up mostly in the MidWest, he has grown a deeper understanding of the complex struggle of Asian Americans and other minority communities where there may be a lack of representation. Now he is based in Atlanta, GA as a mental health professional. In his spare time, he loves to play soccer, cook, and explore new restaurants.
My Approach
My primary goal for the counseling is to walk with the client on a journey towards self actualization through processing past current trauma, anxieties about the future, and the client's cultural context. I specialize in complex trauma for international and multicultural populations and the unique existential experiences they experience such as cultural identity, family dynamics, and career choice. From having moved back and forth from Korea to the U.S., I share a deep burden for the TCKs and hope to build and advocate for a better practice of counseling that addresses the unique experiences of TCKs.
